Historic Domino Refinery Project is in full swing!
The historic Domino sugar refinery in Brooklyn is getting a new lease on life thanks to the efforts of Two Trees Management company. This iconic refinery shut down operations in 2004 after over 140 years, leaving the Brooklyn waterfront with a massive abandoned industrial complex.
Now Two Trees is investing $1.5 billion to redevelop the 11-acre Domino site into a vibrant mixed-use community. Powers IoT is proud to be contributing to this project by handling some of the low voltage electrical work. The project will retain and restore the original refinery buildings, integrating commercial office space, rental apartments, condos, public open space, and community facilities. Sustainability is a priority, with plans for LEED Gold certification and over 600,000 square feet set aside for open public space.
It’s wonderful to see this beloved local landmark revitalized in a way that honors its history while also serving Brooklyn’s needs today. The Domino redevelopment is projected to bring over 2,200 rental units and 500K square feet of office space to Williamsburg, as well as hundreds of construction jobs. Kudos to Two Trees for their vision in transforming the derelict refinery into a state-of-the-art complex that can be enjoyed by generations to come. This is an exciting step for Brooklyn’s future while preserving its industrial past.
