Will The Launch of Matter Help Grow The Market To $53 Billion In 2022?

At the beginning of the month, Forbes shared an article titled “The 7 Biggest Consumer Trends In 2022.” In the article, Forbes notes the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (ioT) stating its ability to reshape the industry and enrich the lives of consumers. Most importantly, Forbes explains how technology can “fill our homes with smart appliances and gadgets,” and mentions the launch of a new product that can help grow the market for smart home devices to $53 billon…

What To Expect From Matter:

Launch of Matter – the “smart home OS’ by Apple, Google, and Amazon

The goal of matter is to create a standard operating environment for connected devices in homes / MDUs. By creating more connections between devices, Matter simplifies development for manufacturers and increases compatibility for consumers.

What Are Consumers Using Instead of Matter?

Currently, devices from different manufacturers generally operate using their own protocols, and although these are frequently designed to operate with other devices, there is no equivalent of Windows or MacOS to let consumers manage and connect all of their devices. This could change in 2022 with the launch of Matter.

Matter for Consumers

“Matter is the seal of approval that says smart devices work reliably together—taking guesswork out of the purchasing process, letting you choose from a wider range of the brands you love, and bringing you the comfort of a secure and seamless connected home.”

Matter for Developers

“Matter is a unifying, IP-based connectivity protocol built on proven technologies, helping you connect to and build reliable, secure IoT ecosystems, and keeping your focus on developing innovative products and accelerating paths to market.”

Matter for Retailers

“Matter is the reliable IoT compatibility standard that drives category growth, simplifying the purchasing process, expanding the smart home category to more retailers, and lowering operational costs.”

Who Is Involved With Matter?

Amazon, Apple, Assa Abloy, Comcast, Google, Huawei, Ikea, Infineon, Kroger, Leedarson, Legrand, NXP, Oppo, Resideo, Schneider Electric, Signify, Silicon Labs, SmartThings, Somfy, Life Augmented, Texas Instruments, Tuya, and Wulian.
